The (Long) Story
We were in a very small plane. From our seats we could see the pilots and the person at the back of the plane, who was flying with their dog.
Most of us were from Maui. But the man I gave my phone to across the narrow aisle was a tourist, and he took a great photo. My view wasn’t nearly as good.
My wife Malia and I were early in her cancer journey heading to Oahu for an appointment at Queens Hospital. Traveling for medical care is common here, but that doesn’t make it easy.
We took this little plane from the Kaanapali Airport because it was 10 minutes from our house instead of an hour. Because they didn’t put you or your bags through the security hassle. Because it was easier.
Also stunning. They flew along the back side of Molokai, and the view was breathtaking.
What we learned later was how lucky we were: Mokulele Airlines often cancels flights when the planes aren’t filled.
We would have missed her appointment.
